Unseen Gravity
Gravity, the force that draws two objects together that is dependant upon mass, and the distance from one another. That is the definition for gravity that is universally accepted by physicists throughout the whole world. What else is there that attracts us to things? There has to be more to gravity than just that one force.
If one decides to stand outside and observe the entrance of Cresthill Middle School between say 7:30 and 7:45, they would notice how all of these kids that are flooding the doors in order to get inside. What attracts them to the school? The school has unseen gravity is completely unnoticed by all who go attend it. But what is this gravity? What is the thing that attracts us to this school.
It is for some, opportunity. For others, obligation.
The kids who actually feel like cultivating the plentiful crop that is their future, look at school as the opportunity for success. School for them is the tool that they will use to grow their crops and make them as beautiful and fulfilling as possible. Opportunity is their gravity.
And for the kids who look at school as menial and mundane, the unseen gravity that attracts them to this building is obligation. They don’t feel like school is worth anything, and therefore the only reason they attend classes at Cresthill, is to extinguish the few remaining days of their lives they will spend trying make a foundation for their lives. What is the difference between them, and the over achievers who strive to get all A’s in work habits grades even though those grades don’t matter? The explination is simply the fact that these kids are only able to see what is going on at only one moment in their lives. They cannot, and most likely will not be able to look into the future, and see how what they do now is really what establishes who they are in the future. These are the kids that do their homework during homeroom or lunch, because talking on myspace seemed more alluring to them. Their excuse is that middle school doesn’t matter, and they will act serious about their education when they go into high school. Those are the words of ignorance. What they haven’t come to realize yet, is that it is almost impossible to change their whole entire study habits once they are in the next grade ahead. Sadly for this type of kid, obligation will forever be their gravity, which is sad for an individual who has so much potential for success. If they only could see that middle school might be demeaning in the simple elementary meaning, but what it really is, is a chance in life. Middle school is the very thing that institutes a future, because it is the first step in independance.
To determine who you are you have to determine what your gravity is to your most influential establishment. What is your reasoning for showing up every day to something that your first percieve as menial and mundane? You have to know the reason why you keep coming back, in order for you to rationalize why you live.
